For this new edition of Design Miami. Paris, GALERIE PATRICK SEGUIN is presenting a selection of iconic pieces by JEAN PROUVÉ, CHARLOTTE PERRIAND, and PIERRE JEANNERETas well as a 6×6 Demountable House by Prouvé, designed in 1944, as part of Design at Large.

As heirs to the principles of the Union des Artistes Modernes, these designers share a vision of modern furniture rooted in functionality, structural rationality, and material innovation—all in response to new lifestyles.

At the heart of the exhibition, a living room area showcases a set of Jeanneret sofas designed for Chandigarh, a GB11 pedestal table, and a swivel pendant light by Prouvé. A desk and a swivel armchair in shades of red highlight Prouvé’s structural solidity and the evolution of his formal language.

In the garden, the 6×6 Demountable House also attests to Prouvé’s ingenuity. Designed after the war to rehouse disaster victims, this 36 m² prefabricated structure is based on an axial portal frame system and prefabricated steel and wood components that are easy to assemble, disassemble, and move.

Beyond its role as emergency housing, it embodies Prouvé’s principles: lightness, economy of means, adaptability, and ingenuity.

For this exhibition, the Gallery reinterprets its interior, drawing inspiration from the chashitsu, a Japanese pavilion dedicated to the tea ceremony. This dialogue between Prouvé’s architecture and the Japanese art of living reveals a shared quest for simplicity, lightness, and the essential.
